    Vacation
If anyone finds a trip from any NYC airport to RDU after 5 PM on 11/27 and returning anytime on 11/29 for under $200, email me at usbl@silverbox.com. Expedia screwed me by listing a $550 flight as $165. I won't be fooled again...

    Thanks.

    $$$
Someone with a bachelor's degree earns $1M more than someone with just a HS diploma over a lifetime. A master's degree is worth $1.4M more than a HS diploma and a professional degree is good for nearly $3.0M more or $4.4M in a life time.

All according to some census bureau info. Man, I'm 25 and am still working on having earned my first .125M. I should've worked harder as a teen.

    Life
So a family friend just found out she has 2 months to live. She has 5 kids, the oldest being 18 and just lost her husband to cancer a year ago. Man, it's bad enough to have 2 months to live. To live them with guilt over leaving your kids orphaned must really suck.

I can't figure out if this news makes me more appreciative that I am at least healthy even though I am spending 90+ hours a week at work OR makes me realize working 90+ hours a week is a waste and that I should find something fun to do for a living...

    Random Thoughts
I forgot I had a LiveJournal account until I saw it pop up in my address bar...

Was it me, or was the dialogue on Sex and the City really awkward? I only got to watch it yesterday...

I haven't left work before 11 in the last 4 work weeks. Luckily that was broken up by a week's vacation...

Speaking of vacations, upstate rocks. I love going there. Is there anything better than a double scoop of Stewart's Fireworks ice cream?...

We also did Montreal. Had the best piece of steak I ever had at The Keg. Sad that a [small] chain steakhouse made better steak that Peter Luger's...

I think the Mets will make the playoffs...

    NY, NY
Is there any chance I'll ever really leave NYC? I've gone to HS, college, law school and now work in Manhattan. I have lived my whole life in Queens. Maybe I'm just kidding myself that I'll somebay escape upstate somewhere.

    They Make Me Cry
    From the Onion:

Tensions continue to rise between India and Pakistan, with the nuclear rivals threatening to go to war over the disputed Kashmir region. What do you think?

Marlon Watts, Architect: "You know, this is precisely why I only read the sports and comics sections."

Couldn't have said it better myself.

    Friends
Are there any rules for when you can de-friend someone? Let's say, hypothetically, you were friends with this guy in college, even roomed with him senior year. Had a great time.

After college, he never once calls you or makes an effort to contact you. You only see him because of a mutual friend. You include him in your wedding party because you think it's weird to include the mutual friend but not him. He still never calls or anything.

Last time you saw him, the mutual friend mentions the money the friend owes you and the friend says (I shit you not) "Oh yea, it's in the mail. I sent it this morning." 4 weeks later, you haven't received the check. Even your mutual friend gives up on him after all his unreturned phone calls and broken promises to meet up here or there.

Now this is a 4 year period. Does he still qualify as a friend? If not, that means I'm down to 4 male friends. Yipes.

    Urinals or Toilets?
Which do you prefer? I was a toilet man since urinals are kinda gross, but since the drought warning in NYC, I realized urinals use a lot less water so I've switched, though I stand a good distance away as to prevent splashing (my firm has barriers between urinals so there are no privacy issues). Anyway, I ask the Q because yesterday there was a piece of crap in the urinal. It was about the size of a ping pong ball so perhaps the pipes got backed up somehow and it got in there. Otherwise, why the heck is there crap in a urinal?

    M&Ms
Why does Eminem continue to be popular? Fine, his first song was catchy and new. Since then, however, we've seen what a piece of trash he is. And his new song sucks. It's terrible. I mean, is it that teens never change and the more adults make controveries out of this guy's songs the more teens love it? He's a scrawny funny looking white kid with a nasal voice who can't make songs not involving himself. Me me me me me. B Real (was that his name?) had a nasal voice, but at least he sounded good and every Cypress song wasn't about them and how great they are. Ugh.

    Anyway, I'm done ranting.

    Stolen
So once again a brilliant idea on my part is taken from me. So I was an asst-coach at my old HS last year. To make a long story short, the new AD came in and wiped out a 20 year old+ tradition of only giving varsity XC letters to runners who ran sub 15:00 twice. So the head coach and I came up with a side award to keep the tradition going. It was a last minute thing since we didn't know this was coming.

So I then decide, since I was going to start working fulltime and no longer coach, that I would donate money for a plaque that would take the place of the award. I tell them all this last May. I secretly decide later on that it would be a nice idea to name it after the head coach.

A year later, what happens? The AD decided to make this plaque an "official" award, the school is now sponsoring it (meaning I don't get the sweet "donated by DLove '94" on it). The plaques have been ordered (using the format I had suggested). AND, they're honring the head coach for 20 years of service, so the award will be named after him.

These were all my ideas and now they've all been stripped from me. I get to share no glory! Darn them all!

    The Nature of Work
Is it better to make six figures and be disatisfied at work or make $35,000 and thoroughly enjoy your job? Or is the grass just greener on the other side and once you start working for $35,000, you will unfailingly become disatisfied with your job because that is the inherent nature of anything that is a "job"?

    Little Things
So my secretary (or is it "professional assistant") is out today and her fill-in decides that the letter I gave her to send out (which did not say "By Hand") should be hand delievred to the client for $45 rather than sent regular mail for $0.34.

Then I order some more sticky pads and get the 1 inch x 1 inch variety. What the hell am I supposed to with those???

    I Touch Myself
I just realized- no one ever touches each other. From the moment I leave my house and kiss my wife goodbye through to the moment I get home at night and kiss her hello, I do not touch anyone else. Our culture has engrained in us the idea that touching people is bad.

Like I can't touch anyone's shoulders. It might be taken as a come on or something. You just don't touch people. It subtley makes the world less intimate.

    The Last 16 Seconds...
    http://www.atomicarchive.com/Example/Example1.shtml

The only reassuring fact is that I woul dhave 16 seconds to pray that I would survive this. Of course, the bomb would most likely be downtown, thus wiping me out in 2 seconds.

I did enjoy being naive and innocent so. So much for those days.
